Morannawaththa Dewalaya, Yakkala
‘Yakkala Gajaba’ is celebrated as one of the tallest tame elephants in Sri Lanka — often compared in stature to the legendary ‘Kataragama Vasana’. Around 40 years old, he carries himself with a serene, dignified presence that has made him the beloved pride of Yakkala.
Adorned in ceremonial regalia, Gajaba graces the Dewalaya’s sacred processions, bringing blessings and joy to devotees. An upcoming documentary on the tallest elephants in Asia will share even more of his story.
Caring for Gajaba is caring for our heritage — every offering is an act of compassion and merit.
